Mockingjay Written by Suzanne Collins Essay Example for Free
Mockingjay Written by Suzanne Collins Essay B.Mockingjay, written by Suzanne Collins, is the third and final book to the hit series, The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen has ventured through the Hunger Games and the third Quarter Quell, and has been rescued by the rebels in District 13 and has been convinced to become ââ¬Å"the Mockingjay,â⬠which happens to be the symbol of the rebellion in Panem. As she takes lead of the rebellion Katniss demands that the leader of the district, President Coin, allow freedom to all Quarter Quell participants, including Peeta who has been manipulated and brain- washed by the Capitol. Katniss also demands that only she has the right to kill President Snow, leader of Panem. Aggravated and annoyed Katniss is kept in the dark from battles and works to create propaganda for the rebellion. Peetas brainwashing deeply effects and disturbs Katniss, but he slowly begins to improve after much treatment and therapy which had included major cake decorating. His friend from his childhood, Delly Cartwright, helps with his recovery by bringing up lost fond memories of their past lives. Not long after Peeta has become well enough to train with Katniss and her propaganda unit, in which they are then sent off on a mission to the Capitol. The rebels gain and convince and gain control of the districts and are able to begin an ambush on the Capitol. A propaganda filming in a safe Capitol neighborhood goes wrong, and Katniss and her team go deeper into the city with the hope of finding and killing President Snow. Many members of Katnisss team are killed, and Katniss is left alone and pushes toward Snowââ¬â¢s mansion, which has supposedly been opened to shelter Capitol children, but is actually intended to trap the kids and use them as human shields for President Snow. As she reaches the mansion, a hover plane with markings of the Capitol drops supply parachutes to the children which then explode, killing many of the children. A medical team ma de up of rebels, which also involves her younger sister Primrose, attempt to care for the wounded children but more parachutes are dropped and kill the rest of the children along with the medics. Katniss more raged than ever is determined to find Snow in order to avenge not only the Districtââ¬â¢s, but also her sister. After the victory of the rebels it has been decided that a Hunger Games will be held for the children in the Capitol. While recovering from the same explosion that killed her sister, Katniss accidentally runs into President Snow who is under house arrest. Snow tells her that he did not order the assault that killed Prim, saying he would have escaped if he had access to a hover plane. Katniss assumes it was Gale, but as he denies it she cannot help but face her doubt and finally comes up with the conclusion that President Coin had ordered the assault. At Snowââ¬â¢s execution, Katniss becomes aggravated and shoots Coin instead. The watchers of the execution become angry and begin to run around aimlessly stomping on President Snow until he is dead. Katniss is ordered back to District 12 after trying to commit suicide and after many months Peeta comes to join her and they both fall in love again with eachother and with Haymitchââ¬â¢s help write a book about the Hunger Games and tributes to keep their memory. C.Themes: 1.Bravery, a majorly used trait in the novel. Katniss along with the rest of the rebellion must stand up to the Capitol and take back their lives. Katniss must be brave in order to make the rebellion successful and to create a stronger world. 2. Loyalty, is a major themed used in Mockingjay. Katniss shows her loyalty to her family and all her loved ones. She expresses her loyalty to Peeta by showing her hope towards him to get better and wishing for him to become better. 3. Determination, is highly needed to be a character in the entire series of The Hunger Games. Katniss was determined to avenge not only her sister and the rest of her family, but the entire world. All of the districts depended on her as the lead of the rebellion to stop President Snow. D.Katniss was faced with the problem of leading the rebellion against the Capitol. ââ¬Å"Yeah, so this is the deal. Iââ¬â¢ll be you Mockingjay.â⬠(Collins 38) Katniss takes up the role as the ââ¬Å"Mockingjayâ⬠and becomes the face of the rebellion. Katniss changes from the beginning of not only Mockingjay, but also throughout the entire series of The Hunger Games. Katniss not only has become the face of the rebellion, but she has led all of Panem against the Capitol and had defeated it. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ll tell them how I survive it. Iââ¬â¢ll tell them that on bad mornings, it feels impossible to take pleasure in anything because Iââ¬â¢m afraid it could be taken away.â⬠(Collins 390) Suzanne Collins used very specific wording to describe the characters and setting in the book Mockingjay. ââ¬Å"My name is Katniss Everdeen. I am seventeen years old. My home is District 12. I was in the Hunger Games. I escaped. The Capitol hates meâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Collins 4) Though Collins doesnââ¬â¢t go too much into detail to describe characters or setting she does explain events and characters in an very succinct manner. A major symbol in Mockingjay is the ââ¬Å"Mockingjay.â⬠Katniss represents the Mockingjay, which symbolizes the rebellion against the Capitol. The jabberjay was a bird that was used by the Capitol as spies but was compromised by rebels. The Capitol had realized they were being fed false information by the rebels and were left alone in the wild where they mated with mockingbirds hence the name Mockingjay. ââ¬Å"I take a deep breath. My arms rise slightly as if recalling the black-and-white wings Cinna gave me then come to rest at my sidesâ⬠¦ ââ¬Å"Im going to be the Mockingjay.â⬠(Collins 31) E.The book Mockingjay was a very entertaining book and was also a part of a very entertaining series. This book was recommended by a family member and the dialogue and the descriptions were captivating. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of the genre and tell them that his series was a great one. The book was very absorbing and seemed to end too fast.

The Other Road in Robert Frosts The Road Not Taken Essay -- Road Not
The Other Road in Robert Frost's The Road Not Takenà à à à à à à à à In his celebrated poem "The Road Not Taken," Robert Frost describes the decision one makes when reaching a fork in the road. Some interpret Frost as suggesting regret on the part of the traveler as to not choosing the path he forgoes, for in doing so he has lost something significant. Others believe he is grateful for the selection, as it has made him the man he is. The diverging roads are symbolic of the choices society is faced with every day of life. Choosing one course will lead the traveler in one direction, while the other will likely move away, toward a completely different journey. How does one know which is the right path; is there a right path? The answer lies within each individual upon reflection of personal choices during the course of life's unfolding, as well as the attitude in which one looks to the future. à David Wyatt writes, "Nowhere in Frost is the tension between surprise and anticipation, wayward experience and the form into which it is cast or forecast, more acute than in 'The Road Not Taken'" (129). As the poem is read, one cannot help but be pulled into the questions of which road will be chosen, how they differ, and what will become of the traveler. Perhaps some hope to find guidance for their own journeys by seeking answers in Frost's work. According to Michael Meyer, "The speaker's reflections about his choice are as central to an understanding of the poem as the choice itself." (97) Frost himself admits, "it's a tricky poem, very tricky." (Pack 10) à In the opening stanza, Frost describes coming to a point during a walk along a rural road that diverges into two separate, yet similar paths. The narrator finds that he ... .... Online. Giuliani :: essays research papers
When Mayor Giuliani first began his campaign for mayor he placed a strong emphasis on quality of life, crime, business, and education. This strategy proved to be very successful and he was appointed as the 107th Mayor of New York. As Giuliani began his term began to follow through on his promises and made several changes in many of New Yorkââ¬â¢s important bureaus ("Biography of Rudolph,â⬠n.d.). The first task that Giuliani took was that of decreasing the amount of crime that was present in New York. He implemented new strategies that have since become models that many other large cities from around the world have followed. While Giuliani was mayor, overall crime was down 57%, and murder was decreased by 65%. With these statistics, New York was recognized by the FBI as the safest large city in the world for five continuous years ("Biography of Rudolph,â⬠n.d.). Another area that Giuliani implemented change was in the area of welfare. At the beginning of his term as mayor, one out of seven New York residents was on welfare. Giuliani started a program which would bring work to these residents and help them to become able to support themselves financially. Through this program 640,000 people were able to get off welfare and stop relying on welfare money provided by the government ("Biography of Rudolph,â⬠n.d.). The last area that Giuliani brought change to was the area of education. Giuliani felt that this was a very important and focused on increasing money for education and bringing up standards. He helped to bring the student-teacher ratio to the lowest it had been in many years and increased available money for education by four million dollars.

Parental Influence on Love Life Professor Ramos Blog
Parental Influence on Love Life Growing up you are told if a child acts good or bad itââ¬â¢s because of their parents, and they are reflecting them. If that is so, does your children really reflect your relationship mistakes or action when they start dating out in the world? According to Karen Stephens from Parenting Exchange, ââ¬Å"Children, in general, do tend to grow up to be a lot like their parents. Social scientists and genetic researchers have identified many cycles that loop from one generation to the nextâ⬠(Stephens). In the story Never Date a Mexican by Sandra Cisnoros this is to be true. In Never Marry a Mexican the main character Clemencia talks about her mother and farther who got married in America. Her mother and farther are the average loving couple which started with a romantic encounter involving a dance. You could say that her farther swooped her mother off from her feet, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ She turned around to the voice that was asking her to dance. A big show-off, sheââ¬â¢d say years l aterâ⬠(Cisneros 71). One day Clemenciaââ¬â¢s farther fell ill and was on his death bed. Was Clemenciaââ¬â¢s mom there like a wife should? No, instead she was with another man. This later leads to Clemenciaââ¬â¢s actions in her own love life. Clemencia mom states, ââ¬Å"Never Marry a Mexicanâ⬠(Cisneros 68). Clemenciaââ¬â¢s mom first husband was from Mexico and she was from America. Clemencia mother compares her relationship to her first husband to how being married to a Mexican is unhappy. This makes Clemencia also think this way. Not only Mexicans but being married to any man. It said in the Story Never Marry a Mexican, ââ¬Å"So, no. Iââ¬â¢ve never married and never will.â⬠(Cisneros 69) When she marries her new husband Clemencia feels like there is no home for her to go back too. Because her momââ¬â¢s new family has taken over the house. ââ¬Å"When she married that white manâ⬠and he and her boys moved into my fatherââ¬â¢s house, it was if she stopped being my motherâ⬠(Cisneros 73). This shows that Clemencia is saying that her affair with Owen separated their family and Clemenciaââ¬â¢s mom is no longer her mom. ââ¬Å"Shit! Because she knew as well as I did there was no home to go home to. Not with our Motherâ⬠(Cisneros 73). This has a direct effect on how she sees Drew and pursues him just like her mom pursues Owen, and also why she feels that it is okay possible ruin a family because Clemencia believes her mom ruined theirs. Parents are everything to children most of the time and when one of your parents are on their death bed it is a horrible time. What is the job of the other parent? It is believed the role the other parent is to be there for her kids and do all they can to make it better and at least not make it worst. What does the mom do the exact opposite for her family. She goes out and sleeps with another man ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ Owen Lambert, the foreman at the photo-finishing plan, who she was seeing even while my father was sickâ⬠(Cisneros 73). While her family is spending their last time with the farther before he passes away. This is similar to what Clemencia does with Drew on the night that his son is being born. ââ¬Å" â⬠¦ while his mother lay on her back laboring his birth, I lay with in his motherââ¬â¢s bed making love to youâ⬠(Cisneros 75). Clemencia and her mom are both involved into cheating, the one being cheated on both happen to be in the hospital during the act, and the one committing the act should be there for the wife or husband not doing what they are doing. Some might say this is a coincidence. I believe it is not for the reason that Clemencia sees her mom do it so why would it not be okay for her to do it also? Clemencia sates that she is a romantic but not at the same time in the text, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦Iââ¬â¢m too romantic for marriage. Marriage has failed me you could sayâ⬠(Cisneros 69). Her mom and farther started off happy with the romantic stuff that we all love. Things goes downhill in her parents love life and her mom cheats on her dad. Clemenciaââ¬â¢s mom makes a lot of excuses on why she cheated. She says, ââ¬Å"because I married to young, miââ¬â¢ja.â⬠she say, ââ¬Å"Because your farther, he was so much older than me, and I never had a chance to be youngâ⬠(Cisneros 73). Clemencia then sees that all good things come to an end and only wants the good stuff, ââ¬Å"Just the cream skimmed off the top. Just the sweetest part of the fruit, without the bitter shin that daily living with a spouse can rendâ⬠(Cisneros 69). So that is why Clemencia states that she likes her men barrowed which means that whatever man that she is messing around with belongs to someone else, ââ¬Å"Borrowed. Thatââ¬â¢s how Iââ¬â¢ve had my menâ⬠¦.â⬠(Cisneros 69). This is because she learned from her mom because she was with another man why her husband was dying in the hospital and she never has to get hurt like her dad and his family. How hard we try not to we seem to start to copy are parents in some way. If your daily influence was cheating and not happy with their relationship donââ¬â¢t you think that would affect your romantic choices on life. This is what happened to Clemencia, because she learned from her daily influence growing up and then lead to her choices of her love life. You wonââ¬â¢t notice the things that you learn from your parents, but at the end of the day we represent them in some way. We can learn and repeat good or bad things from our parents on what to do and not to do. Clemencia took her momââ¬â¢s cheating on her dad in a negative and positive light. She learned about relationships, to not to get into one because you will get hurt, and cheating or being with someone cheating is okay. That is what life lessons Clemencia took from her mom.
